This variety came from a cross of Trinidad Perfume and orange habanero with a great result. Pods are not as hot as a orange habanero but much hotter the Trinidad perfume. Plants grow simular to Trinidad perfume with small to medium sized plants that are great fir indoor growing with the plants not getting any higher them 1 1/2 foot and the same around. Plants can hide the pods under the leafs so it’s hard to see how many pods there are but this variety can have heavy yields indoors and out we actually see the same harvest indoor as outdoors. Pods are thin walled and have very good taste and make excellent powder

APS HOT ORANGE HABANERO - The Floral Inferno

**Basic Info**

Species: *Capsicum chinense*

Origin: Mexico (Yucatán Peninsula)

Heat: Extra-Hot (150,000-325,000 SHU)

Type: Classic orange habanero variety

**Story**

The APS Hot Orange Habanero carries the legacy of one of the world's most iconic peppers, a variety that has defined the habanero experience for centuries. Originating in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, this pepper was a culinary cornerstone long before it captured global attention as the world's hottest pepper (a title it held from the 1990s until surpassed by newer superhots).

What makes the orange habanero particularly special is its unique flavor profile - a bright, floral sweetness with stone fruit notes that distinguishes it from other habanero varieties. The lantern-shaped pods mature from green to a vivid, eye-catching orange, signaling peak heat and flavor. At 150,000-325,000 SHU, it delivers a slow-building, all-encompassing heat that spreads across the palate and lingers for minutes, providing both warning and lasting impact.

Historically, the orange habanero was not viewed as an extreme ingredient but as a standard component of Yucatecan cuisine, essential to salsas, marinades, and table condiments. Its thin walls concentrate both flavor and capsaicin, making it exceptionally potent yet nuanced. The floral aroma is genuinely tropical, reminiscent of citrus peel and stone fruit, setting it apart from the smoky depth of chocolate habaneros or the pure heat of modern superhots.

In culinary applications, the APS Hot Orange Habanero excels in fresh preparations where its bright flavor can shine. Paired with mango, pineapple, or citrus, it creates harmonious salsas where sweetness tempers the heat while amplifying the pepper's own fruity character. When charred briefly, it develops deeper, caramelized notes that enhance grilled meats and roasted vegetables.

For gardeners, this variety offers the thrill of growing a legendary pepper with proven adaptability. The plants bush out significantly, requiring 18-24 inches of spacing, and produce abundant harvests of 2-3 inch pods. Full sun and warm conditions are essential, as the *chinense* species stalls below 65°F.
