Varieties good for Bonchili
This is our list of varieties that would make very nice Bonchilis. For those who don't know what a bonchili is, it is a pepper plant grown like a bonsai. These are sometimes referred to as (Bonchi) Chilli Pepper plants/Pepper plants
Pepper plants can make very good bonsai's because they grow much faster than the evergreen tree that are used. It is our opinion that they look much better then a real bonsai especially when they are full of flowers or full of pods. We are going to add more varieties here in the near future and some bonchili pictures. For now, this is a picture of one of the oldest bonchili pepper plant we have had. The plant In this first photo is 8 years old.
There are many varieties that can be grown as Bonchili really all varieties can be grown but there are some that are best suited for Bonchili’s like Dwarf Varieties and Ornamental varieties.
To make a good Bonchilli you need to grow your plant in a bigger pot and than cut it down and transplant it into your Bonchili pot. We grow ours in 1 gallon pots. To get a good sized stock and than cut it back and put it into our Bonchili pot. See picture for a plant that is ready to transplant into a Bonchili pot.
once you have made the transplant you can start to form your plant to look the way you want it to be there are many ways to do this. Growing your new Bonchili is a very fun hobby. We suggest you start more than one that way if you kill one you will have more to play with. They are many way to Tran your plants from using wire to make branch’s grow outward to strings to make branch’s grow downward. Its the ways you shape your Bonchili that is most of the fun really there is no limit to what you can do.
